As the weather heats up, don’t miss the hottest happenings in Colorado. From exciting events, to experiences and new openings across the Centennial State, spring and summer look set to be scorching.

New Events

New Southwest Chief Bicycle and Comedy Festival: 2-5 May

The Southwest Chief Bicycle and Comedy Festival is a new experience which brings together live comedy, cycling and train travel. Beginning on 2 May, passengers can embark the Amtrak Southwest Chief train in both LA and Chicago, arriving in Trinidad, Colorado, on 3 May. Once there, an epic festival awaits, where travellers will watch comedy acts, enjoy street food and explore Trinidad’s beautiful outdoors by bike. Those who don’t have their own wheels can hire through local bike share organization Giddyup.

 

Boulder Beer Chase: 15 June

Craft beer aficionados will rejoice at the Boulder Beer Chase, a six-person relay involving fresh mountain air and delicious hoppy beer. Beginning in Fort Collins, the race covers 56.7 miles in total and is split into 12 legs, with a brewery at the end of each leg ready and waiting to give participating runners a sample of craft beer. Participants will run two legs each, passing through Loveland, Berthoud, Longmont and Niwot, before finishing at Boulder Beer Company.

 

Women-only Colorado Classic: 22-25 August

The Colorado Classic announced in December 2018 that it will become the only Union Cycliste Internationale standalone women’s stage race in the Western Hemisphere, fulfilling its mission to create a socially impactful world-class race. With the elimination of the men’s race, the Colorado Classic now serves women exclusively and has big plans for 2019, including quadrupling its prize packets and team stipends, introducing free live streaming and longer, more challenging routes, thus empowering female athletes on a global stage.

 

New Exhibition

 Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years of Genius: Now-25 August

In celebration of Leonardo da Vinci’s 500th birthday, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science will host ‘Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years of Genius’, an exhibition documenting the life of one of the most celebrated Renaissance figures. Running from now – 25 August, the exhibition highlights da Vinci’s enduring presence as a continuous source of inspiration for art enthusiasts the world over. Visitors can view more than 50 of his machine inventions, including a helicopter, submarine and military tank.

 

New Hotels

 The Foundry, Loveland: Opening May

Scheduled to open in May in Loveland’s historic downtown, The Foundry will be a new epicentre of entertainment in the city. The development will offer a 102-room hotel as well as numerous dining outlets – from artisan coffee to gastro-pub restaurants – and a cinema. During the warmer months, the outdoor plaza will host live music and outdoor film screenings, and there will even be a splash park for the little ones.

 

W Aspen: Opening July

Located at the base of Aspen Mountain, W Aspen is set to become one of the most sought-after stays in the resort. 88 rooms and suites will make up the property, each designed with fresh Alpine style in mind. There are après opportunities aplenty, from the WET Deck – an all-weather rooftop with fire pit and DJ area – to 39°, a late-night underground club. The hotel will also have a fitness centre and swimming pool.
