School’s out for Summer… what will you do?

STORY BY Debbie 28th July 2017

School is officially out for the summer and with so many summer destinations, families have plenty of holiday options to choose from.  Here at Love The Mountains we love the affordable adventures families can have in the Brecon Beacons National Park, UK.

The Brecon Beacons National Park, located in South Wales, is a treasure trove for families due to the huge array of outdoor activities on its doorstep such as horse riding, abseiling, stargazing, canoeing, exploring old ruins and castles and relaxing pub lunches by the river. Popular activities that families will enjoy in the National Park include taking a scenic ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway, kayaking down the river, learning to horse-ride in the open countryside and exploring one of the world’s largest dinosaur collections underground in the Dan yr Ogof Showcaves. Other family-friendly experiences guaranteed to entertain the whole family include bread making classes at Talgarth Flour Mill, petting the animals at Cantref Adventure Farm and going on leisurely bike rides through forests, beautiful meadows and past rolling hills.

When it comes to accommodation, families have plenty of choice. From stylish B&B’s and glamping in luxury yurts to boutique hotels and picturesque, self-catered cottages, there is a place to stay to suit all tastes and budgets.  For families on a budget, the National Park is a great summer destination, as there is no cost involved with walking the many scenic trails, wandering around ancient ruins (such as Carreg Cennen Castle), relaxing by dramatic waterfalls and going Geocaching. Not sure what Geocaching is? This is a global game of hide-and-seek, with almost two million hidden ‘treasures’. The Brecon Beacons National Park has planted 180 caches for visitors to find and it’s a great way to entertain children on a country walk. breconbeacons.org
