Keep track of the best mountain events over the summer

14–18 June: Crankworx (Les Gets, France)

The world’s biggest mountain biking tour rolls into Europe from its previous stop in New Zealand, arriving at the French Alps for five full-on days of world-class competition alongside fun and activities for fans and spectators. Next stop Innsbruck from 21 to 25 June before the finale in Whistler, Canada, in August.  crankworx.co

30 June–1 July: Enduro World Series (Round 5 of 8, Millau, France)

The World Series aims to establish, develop and spearhead Enduro mountain bike racing worldwide with eight stages in 2017. Millau will see the competition hot up as we enter the second half of the competition year after stages in Australia, New Zealand, Madeira and Ireland.  enduroworldseries.co

30 June–9 July: New Zealand Mountain Film Festival (Wanaka, Cromwell and Queenstown)

The NZ Mountain Film Festival is a NZ-made festival which started in 2002 and is internationally recognised as one of the world’s premier mountain film festival events.  mountainfilm.nz

1–23 July: Tour de France (France and Germany)

The 104th edition of the Tour de France will begin with an individual time trial in Düsseldorf on 1 July and conclude with the Champs-Élysées stage in Paris on 23 July 2017. Tour de France

3–9 July: Megavalanche (Alpe-d’Huez, France)

A downhill mountain biking race with the biggest vertical descent of any competition in the world starting from Le Pic Blanc (3,300m) and finishing at Allemont (720m) attracts 1,400 participants from 20 different countries with four days of training and racing and a total of over 4,000 downhill metres. ucc-sportevent.com/en/megavalanche-alpe-dhuez-en/

7 July–31 August: The Sounds of the Dolomites (Italy)

The wonderful idea of live music performances at high-altitude locations around the Dolomites including mountain huts and in the open air. Mostly classical music is performed, but there’s also some jazz and world music, beginning in the Fuciade Refuge at Passo San Pellegrino with 12 violinists from the Berlin Philharmonic.

27–29 July: Evel Knievel Days 2017 (Butte, Montana, USA)

Taking place in Knievel’s hometown, daredevils will take their skateboards, BMX bikes, motorcycles and more to extreme heights and put on a dangerous show in the spirit of Evel Knievel that you won’t find anywhere else. evelknieveldays.org 

11–13 August: Snowdonia Outdoor Festival (Bala, Wales)

The new festival is expected to attract up to 10,000 people for a combination of music and outdoor activities celebrating Wales and the Welsh language. Sporting events will include trail runs, open-water swims on the lake, mountain bike races, a mass participation cycle race – and a swim-run event.  snowdonia-outdoorfestival.co.uk
