Another summer is here with even more events getting underway in Alpe d’Huez. The summer also brings a huge diversity of fun sports events with plenty of team spirit and challenges where you can surpass yourself but with no pressure involved.
24th edition ! The Mégavalanche is one of the oldest of Alpe d’Huez’s sports events. The summit of the Pic Blanc at 3330 m altitude is where 1500 downhill amateurs and professionals unite. 30 nationalities of riders meet up every year for a rich and varied descent between glaciers, pastures and forests finishing up at the arrival line in Allemont at 850 m altitude.
Since 2017, one of the 3 timed and ranked stages of the Haute Route has taken place in Alpe d’Huez. This is a more accessible format for the course which respects the fundamentals of the event; an iconic spot, legendary cols, an International peloton and a Premium service.
From Tuesday 16th to Sunday 21st July / NEW !
French Mountain Biking Championships
For the first time ever, this summer Alpe d’Huez is hosting the French Mountain Biking Championships organised by the French Cycling Federation. It’s a 6-day competition where the best mountain bikers will compete in a Cross Country Eliminator, a Cross Country Olympic format and a Cross Country Relay and Trial.
From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July/ ‘Time’ Triathlon Alpe d’Huez
This 14th edition should be the most popular ever since the creation of the event. The registrations for the long distance race are growing so this edition will be an impressive one for its 3000 participants who want to be part of the ‘legend’. In at the deep end as the participants swim the Verney lake, pedal power on the 21 bends then sprint above the village of Alpe d’Huez; what a trio of amazing sports challenges.
